Tolpuddle House

Tolpuddle House is a new combined supported housing, education, training & supported employment scheme. It is based at our centre in Chipping Ongar and is run in partnership with East Thames Housing Association. Essex Social Care is also involved in Tolpuddle House.

The overall purpose of Tolpuddle House is to provide a bridge towards independent living, education, training and employment, enabling individuals to build skills, experience, qualifications and confidence with a clear progression plan onwards. This mixed scheme is for anyone who has an education, housing and support need over the age of 18. Individual learning plans and agreements will be developed through assessment days and an initial induction programme, ensuring that each individual has a personalised programme that will last between 1-3 years, according to need.

As well as offering our existing skills for life courses covering numeracy, literacy and ICT, the new range of training courses on offer to both tenants and day students will include catering and hospitality training, reception management, facilities management, theatre technician, stage management and lighting, events management, support work, office management and administration. All of our courses provide soft skills development also, such as building self esteem and self confidence, communication skills, presenting skills, interview skills, and job preparedness. The aim is to prepare people for the work place and also support them to try out different career pathways and choose an area that is fulfilling and achievable.
